About this School
Vision Statement

We envision a school rising to the highest possible standards of educational excellence as a result of ensuring that ALL students will learn and will soar to success on the wings of meaningful change and on-going school improvement.

Curriculum and Programs

Buena Vista Elementary School has an outstanding reputation in the community as a school with a healthy and safe environment. We emphasize and adhere to State Standards with State adopted curriculum and texts. We have consistently scored over 800 on the API. A particular point of emphasis at this point in time is our development of professional learning communities. This means that grade level teams have formed to talk about how our students are learning, including their success and failures. Grade level team teachers then discuss and decide what areas can be improved upon and/or try out new instructional techniques. Other school programs will be discussed in the future.

Enrollment and Community

We are a relatively small K-5 school with a total student population of approximately 430. We will become a K-6 school beginning in the 2008-2009 academic school year. The staff at the school is noted to be very dedicated. We are also fortunate to have a supportive and active community. The parental involvement at school events and in regard to assisting students to grow is phenomenal.

School History

Our school was built in the early 1960's when Vandenberg Air Force Base was first being built up. Our PTA was founded in 1963 and has consistently supported student success at our school.
